Highlights from September

Special Activities

It was exciting to see the release of “Leader, Draw Near–Devotions For Your Pursuit of God.” Published by OCF, it is a devotional book that has been in the works for the past few years. The book is designed to encourage military members (and others) to draw near to God in their quest to integrate faith and profession. Leader, Draw Near was inspired through connecting with leaders in a number of venues, including weekly devotions on military installations throughout the Puget Sound region, local OCF Bible study groups, and one-on-one mentoring relationships. Leader, Draw Near delivers spiritual encouragement for leaders and focused Scripture-based discussion on concerns of leaders. Containing 53 devotions with points to ponder and monthly reflections to help readers draw near to God, Leader, Draw Near is available in both soft cover and e-book versions.

Highlighted Weekly/Routine Activity

Kicked off weekly Leaders’ Devotions at JBLM McChord Field. The devotion targets senior leaders. From 0630 to 0700, leaders connect through Scripture and prayer at the McChord Chapel Support Center. Marriage enrichment seminar in conjunction with AWANA. Instead of parents dropping their children off and returning to pick them up after AWANA, we partnered with the McChord Field Chapel, to offer weekly marriage and parenting seminars for parents. Hosted a cookout at our home for our small group family participants of the Military Family Week at Malibu Club. We are grateful for the various one-on-one mentoring sessions we had this month.

God Sightings of the Month

The level of ministry partnering this month was truly Spirit lead. Our excitement and gratitude are stoked as we saw God orchestrate five new partnering initiatives. The fields are ripe unto harvest, and it takes unified effort and participation to impact our sphere for Christ.

Ministry Partner

Partnering colored the month of September. To provide information on the weekly senior leaders’ devotional, we were invited by the McChord Field wing chaplain to set up an OCF display table at a Chapel sponsored wing leadership breakfast. We also collaborated with the Naval Station Everett Chaplain to connect the monthly OCF lunch study to an initiative to have a weekly lunchtime Bible study. Now, each month, the garrison Chaplain hosts three studies and OCF the fourth. This initiative consolidates publicity and makes the study available to more people. We participated in the Malibu Club reunion of participants in the Young Life sponsored military family week, for which Bobbie and I served as small group leaders.
