Core Competencies

OCF must identify its core competencies (its demonstrated and potential organizational strengths) in order to focus its energies and resources on actions that promise to bear the greatest harvest for the Kingdom of God. Here are the recognized strengths of the ministry that guide our action priorities:

Prayer.

OCF seeks to obey the Bible's teachings on the disciplines of prayer by:
1.1. Emphasis on applying the "Pray, Discover, Obey" principle (process) at all levels of leadership and decision making within the Fellowship.
1.2. Prayer support provided by the home office in its workday devotions and through other staff prayer exercises.
1.3. Opportunities for members to request and to participate in broad prayer support for members and activities of the Fellowship through OCF's official prayer reminder, Power in Prayer.
1.4. Exploiting the potential for prayer support through OCF's prayer forum on the Internet.
1.5. Prayer activities and emphases planned and practiced by local fellowships.

Small Group Local Fellowship and Outreach.

OCF maintains an extensive network of small groups throughout the military society that provide:
2.1. Opportunities for fellowship, prayer, and mutual encouragement of military believers.
2.2. Opportunities to study and apply biblical truths in personal, family, professional, and ministry activities and relationships.
2.3. Opportunities to envision and conduct Spirit-led activities to encourage other believers to live boldly for Christ in the military and to proclaim the Good News to unbelievers in that society.

Leadership.

OCF activities provide:
3.1. Development of officer candidates, cadets, midshipmen, and officers and their families for spiritual leadership in units and military communities.
3.2. Opportunities to share in leading ministry teams of local Christian leaders from OCF, chapel, and other parachurch military ministries to cooperate in evangelism and disciple building
3.3. Published products that present unique resources on Christian leadership and ethics for leaders and future leaders of military units and communities.
3.4. Outdoor adventure/leadership development experiences offered through "Rocky Mountain High" at Spring Canyon.
3.5. Personal mentoring and support of local leaders and other members through communications and visits by staff and other leaders.

Conference Centers.

Spring Canyon and White Sulphur Springs provide:
4.1. Sources for biblical fellowship, teaching, and outreach to military people and families.
4.2. Opportunities for spiritual, emotional, and physical refreshment and renewal for military believers.
4.3. Locations with the potential for more extensive outreach, fellowship and teaching for enlisted persons and their families.
4.4. Avenues for imparting a vision for military ministry, including the OCF purpose and vision, to those who participate in programs year around.
4.5. Ministries specifically designed for military teens and younger children.
4.6. Appropriate avenues to present funding and staffing needs to those who participate in year around programs, especially those with a desire to see God raise up a spiritually transformed military.

Publishing.

OCF publishing activities provide:
5.1. A variety of effective means for informing, instructing, and inspiring military believers to live biblically in the armed forces, including publicizing and educating people within and outside of the military on the purpose, nature, and work of OCF.
5.2. A variety of ways to support and extend OCF's outreach and service in the military society.
5.3. An effective way for members to communicate with one another about their local fellowships, personal testimonies, and understanding of how to apply biblical truths in the military profession, in family life, and in personal witness and spiritual leadership in the military community.
5.4. The potential, through the Internet and the Web, for expanding OCF's capacity to engage and motivate military believers for witness and service in the armed forces.
5.5. Support for OCF's efforts to cultivate the human and financial resources the Fellowship needs in order to fulfill its purpose and vision.
