Purpose:

Reports to the Executive Director, serving as principal advisor on all financial matters. As such, leads and directs the OCF Finance Department, overseeing all financial management functions and reporting, planning and budgeting, investment management and analysis, and assists the Director of Human Resources in managing OCF’s benefit programs.  Additionally, the Director of Finance is a critical member of OCF’s senior leadership team ensuring OCF fulfills its mission of engaging military leaders in Biblical fellowship and growth to equip them for Christ-like service at the intersection of faith, family, and profession.  Toward this end the Director of Finance will work closely with the Deputy Executive Director during the year of execution, ensuring strategic framework objectives are adequately funded per the annual budget.  Lastly, as the Executive Director’s financial lead for OCF, the Director of Finance prepares periodic reports to the OCF Council through the Council’s Treasurer.

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director (overall authority) in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Executive Director (synchronization and delegation of all directors).

Primary Responsibilites:

This position is responsible for managing all of OCF’s financial functions, including financial management and reporting, planning, budgeting, and recordkeeping. The position is responsible for the financial function at OCF’s two conference centers.  The position also assists the Director of Human Resources in benefit management.

This position is responsible for keeping the Executive Director informed of OCF’s financial position and trends in a timely manner.  The position ensures all of OCF’s financial recordkeeping is accurate and conducted according to generally accepted accounting principles.

The position is responsible for ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place and ensuring that day-to-day financial transactions are handled legally and ethically at the OCF Home Office and at its two conference centers.  The Director of Finance functions as the Executive Director’s principal representative to the OCF Council’s Finance Committee.

The position is responsible for working closely with other members of OCF’s Management Team to ensure there are financial resources for the smooth, timely and efficient operations within OCF. The Director of Finance is part of the team to foster a cooperative, professional, and Christ-centered work environment.

The Director of Finance is designated as an “Officer of the Corporation” by the OCF Constitution and shall perform such duties on behalf of the Corporation as may be set forth in the OCF By-laws or other governing documents.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

The Director of Finance position requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who continues to learn quickly, keeping OCF up to date on the latest financial best practices, and works extremely well with the OCF Home Office staff, directors, Field Staff and Conference Center Directors and Staff.  The Director of Finance also establishes a professional and friendly relationship with all staff, members of OCF, and donors displaying self-confidence, humility, diplomacy, wisdom, political savvy combined with the highest integrity and professional standards.  The Director of Finance must also be able to balance his or her position under the authority of the Executive Director and his or her position as an “officer of the corporation” under the purview of the President of the Council.

  • BS in Accounting or Master of Business Administration required. CPA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the field, with at least 5 years of that working with non-profit preferred.
  • Proficiency in the latest financial accounting principles best practices for non-profits.
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud’s Financial Edge Accounting System preferred.
  • Ability to plan ahead, manage deadlines, and maintain/establish systems enabling OCF to operate smoothly and effectively.
  • Strong analytic and communications skills (both written and verbal) to ensure clear, concise understanding of the financial position of OCF at any period in time, is understood by the Council, ED, and Staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills ensuring ability to work with all Staff, Council, OCF members and donors promoting a healthy team atmosphere.

Working Conditions:

This is a Field Staff position performed at the OCF Home Office.  It is an Exempt Salaried full-time position. Travel is usually limited to two Council meetings per year and periodic Staff conferences. The Director of Finance may be removed either by the Council or Executive Director whenever in its, or his or her, judgment the best interests of the Corporation would be served in his or her dismissal.    Other travel as needed to perform Director of Finance duties. Requires sitting for long periods of time.  Requires regular use of stairs.  Requires reaching continually throughout the workday (mouse, keyboard, telephone).

Starting Salary Target for Consideration: approximately $70,000
