This position is available immediately, but ideally starts NLT 1 Feb 20.
What are we looking for?
That a clear sense of God’s calling to this specific and sacrificial work will become manifest through the hiring process. This is the preeminent criteria and trumps all else below.
A demonstrated strong and growing Christian faith and desire to be part of the Spring Canyon ministry team. A passion to minister (possibly at all hours of the day) to guests through fixing broken “things”, facilities construction and renovation, equipment repair, plowing/shoveling snow, essentially being a jack-of-all-trades.
Ideally, someone who has transitioned or retired from military service (not essential), with a strong professional and spiritual reputation.
Ideally, someone with a history in OCF and Spring Canyon (not essential), or Christian camping/conference center ministry experience and leadership.
Demonstrated capability in all areas of maintenance/grounds, facilities construction and renovations, vehicle/equipment repairs, etc. If there is a weakness in certain maintenance areas, then a willingness to be trained and mentored to acquire the needed skills.
Small Public Water Systems and Small Wastewater Class D certifications a plus, or desire and ability to obtain the two certifications within first 6 months of employment.
View service at Spring Canyon as a ministry calling rather than a job. Be totally invested in the vision and mission of OCF & Spring Canyon, and serve with a whole heart (1 Sam 12:24 and Col 3:23-24).
Financial freedom to work for ministry-level compensation.
A three year commitment is preferred.
Reports To: Facilities and Maintenance Director
The Facilities and Maintenance Assistant is supervised by the Facilities and Maintenance Director, and together will oversee all facilities and maintenance areas. Together they plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of maintenance and improvements for facilities and grounds in a manner that provides a safe and comfortable environment for all staff and guests. This role assists the Director to develop and organize preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment, and complete/coordinate construction projects, remodels, and other special projects. This position has the potential to serve as a Public Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant operator, and ensure Spring Canyon is compliant with all state and federal regulations and prepared for state and federal inspections.
Spring Canyon is a retreat and conference center in Buena Vista, CO, about 120 miles west of Colorado Springs. Since 1962, Spring Canyon has served military families, couples, singles, and Christian groups from across the world as a “home away from home” for community and fellowship. It is nestled in the beautiful Collegiate Peaks on the edge of the famous Arkansas River Valley, and is a Christ-centered sanctuary for military families, individuals, and groups where the presence of God transforms lives. When guests drive down from the mountain after a retreat, our desire is that they are refreshed, equipped, and inspired to serve in the name of Jesus Christ, wherever God has called them.
This is a regular, full-time, exempt position and the working hours required will be as necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the ministry. Due to the nature of this position and Conference Center ministry, regular, full-time exempt employees are on-call, when assigned on-call duties, 24 hours per day with no provision for direct compensation. Being on-call does not prohibit employees from effectively controlling their time or leaving the premises. This position may be required to work irregular hours in order to meet guest needs. Occasional out-of-town and some local travel is required.
Possible conference center housing available with a single-efficiency apartment. If candidate is single, they may need to share this apartment with a roommate.
