Do you have the reputation of being the “go-to g Do you have the reputation of being the “go-to guy?” Weighty responsibility and promise can accompany this reputation. What qualified you for such acclaim? What achievement or characteristic elevates someone over another? If you have started formulating a mental checklist of “go-to guy” virtues, stop right here and consider the qualifications Paul designates believers should strive for as they advance the kingdom of God: Love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.

One complication with being the reputed point man can be our temptation to take credit for what God enables us to do. In other words, our good reputation could serve as a thief of the Lord’s glory. How God has gifted us as administrators, leaders, or teachers are gifts that can be mishandled in that we use them to divert exaltation from the Gifter.

Faithfulness to Christ Jesus is the desired end state. What Christ has entrusted to us, He wants us to offer back to Him in faithful service to others. In the Old Testament, the Lord gifted certain people with skills and technical knowledge to build artifacts for the temple. God led them to construct things for His own glory, not for the builders’ glory. In that sense, God’s calling us into service can be a fragile honor, something to be handled with great care. It has been said, “a little knowledge can puff one up.” Paul observed that some strayed and ended in fruitlessness. The goal and privilege of believers is to serve Christ again, and again, and again. The applause we want to hear comes from the Lord saying, “Well done good and faithful servant.” I am keeping you in service.

It is a privilege to be called into service and to be given skills by Him to shape programs that will draw people to Him. Our goal is not to amass a personal reputation as the qualified “go-to person,” but rather to point others to Him for the glory He is due. As God calls us into service, He does not call us because of our unique skill set or qualifications; rather, He deems us faithful and trustworthy as a condition for service.

Pray for our military and its leaders. Ask God to bless them with protection, wisdom, strength, and courage in their service.

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgivin “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32, ESV).

Such was the theme of last weekend’s Leading Women Retreat at @wssocf. Tami Waring, speaker and OCF staff rep for women’s ministry, shared that a variety of ladies attended, ranging from many young active-duty officers through retired O-6’s.

“Forgiveness was the topic, and it seems to resonate,” Tami said. “There was lively participation and discussion and tears… The unity of the body was evident and such a joy.”

In particular, this unity of the body enabled sweet, in-person interactions for women traveling from across the region. One young officer in attendance had gotten news from her detailer on her way to the retreat, and she had the joy of celebrating that exciting news with two of her dear friends who were meeting her at this Leading Women event.

Keep all these women in uniform in your prayers as they continue to deepen their relationships with the Lord and with each other from wherever the military sends them.

God declares through the apostle Paul that “ther God declares through the apostle Paul that “there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” (Romans 13:1). Military leaders not only submit to governing authorities, but they also are a governing authority. God raises up every ruling authority according to His purposes and plans, from local leaders to national leaders.

Consider how God dealt with Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, by humbling him until he acknowledged “that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He will” (Daniel 4:32).

According to God’s will, Joseph was appointed to great authority by the Pharaoh of Egypt in order to save many lives (Genesis 45:5, 50:20).

Likewise, Esther was made queen of Persia for the purpose of saving her people (Esther 4:14).

Even the rulers of the Jews, the Gentiles, and the Romans were raised up by God at exactly the right moment in history to do all that God had planned regarding Christ Jesus’ crucifixion (Acts 2:23, 4:27-28). Jesus lived and served under authority, and so do we.

How do we serve under authority while also serving in authority? How can we develop a biblically informed ethic for decision-making? What is the value of courage for a leader facing a mob mentality? Find thoughts on these questions and others in Chapter 30 of the #OCFHandbook, linked in our bio.

King Ahab’s wars with the Aramean King Ben-hadad King Ahab’s wars with the Aramean King Ben-hadad are described in 1 Kings 20. Israel’s small army was not allied with other nations as was the Aramean army. In fact, King Ben-hadad had pushed Israel around, requiring Israel’s silver, gold, women and children. Not until the Lord put an end to Israel’s acquiescence did Ahab stand up to Ben-hadad. By a surprise attack, Ben-hadad found himself in retreat with plans to attack Israel again in the spring.

Intimidation, threats, and the unknown have a way of manufacturing fear and anxiety. However, God’s wisdom is available to us. God’s prophet gave Ahab answers, the way ahead, and confidence. Today—God’s Word and His abiding presence steady us when we are facing great and small obstacles. As with Ahab, the very things that are not obvious to us, the Lord uses as His tool to deliver us.

Dominicans are relational - and sometimes even when there is so much to be done - you stop the housework and hull peas because that act of love means the family will eat tonight. We are sunburned, tired, and filthy, but not one member of this team would choose to be anywhere else!” -@usmaocf on day 2 of last week’s Spring Break Missions Trip to the Dominican Republic

Relationships strengthened, house built, gospel shared. Now that the 26-person team from USMA OCF has returned from their time in the DR, head to their page to check out all the stories they shared while they served there with The Centurion Project, YWAM, and SCORE.

Having found ourselves in uniform, we can describe Having found ourselves in uniform, we can describe our profession as a calling, a calling to glorify God in how we fulfill our work. He is the Caller; we are the called. We are in the location and workplace God intends to be good for us, good for those we serve, and again … for His glory.

Peter reasons (1 Peter 2:13-16) that we are to be subject to human institutions (in our case, the military), to do good (submitting to authority and being excellent in work), and to remember that we are servants of God within the culture. The entire New Testament bears witness to God’s call coupled with our responsibility to do good, and if we “do good and suffer for it,” then we must endure, since it is to this that God has called us—Christ leaving us an example (1 Peter 2:20-21).

Visit the link in our bio to learn more about what it means to be a Christian leader, God’s sovereignty, staying on mission, and family alignment, all addressed in Chapter 29 of the #OCFHandbook.
