What Works for New Officers?

[…]hadn’t. 6. As a leader, PRAY DAILY, especially for wisdom (Phil. 4:6,7). Often we pray in a reactive sense instead of a preparatory sense. It doesn’t have to be formal or even done in private. Let God speak to you, cry out to Him, be honest, admit weakness, and plead for help (1 Thess. 5:17, Rom. 8:26). TIP: Set aside specific time to pray for coworkers, commanders, subordinates, and issues. 7. KNOW and DO your job well. Only then will you earn the respect of your peers and the right to be heard (Col. 3:23, 24). Be reliable and take […]

Returning Home

[…]the rules stand until mom and dad have a chance to calmly renegotiate. If a couple has been actively and regularly communicating concern and support, they may discover they have a stronger marriage when they are brought together again. These couples may wish to renew their wedding vows–or at least re-dedicate themselves to one other–in an intentional act of commitment to each other and to God. Their home church can be a supportive part of that celebration. The adjustments families need to make can be improved by a good understanding of the stresses of separation and a strategy for thriving. […]

My experiences during my Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) deployment demonstrated to me that I needed to invest a similar level of detail and passion in my execution of SPIRITUAL planning (1 Timothy 4:7-8). Make no mistake, physical and military training must be done to accomplish the mission, to establish our […]

How Shall We Pray?

[…]moment see God’s purpose in them? First, by taking them as from God, and asking ourselves what reactions to them, and in them, the gospel of God requires of us; and second, by seeking God’s face specifically about them.” The Apostle Paul had a thorn in the flesh which the Lord addressed by saying, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” J. I. Packer frames our challenges in similar terms when he says, “They will have been sent us to make and keep us humble, and to give us a new opportunity of […]

I Only See Green

[…]We all descended from Adam and Eve so no matter what race we are, we all come from the same blood (Acts 17:26). God wants to save all mankind, not just one race or two. Jesus showed in many ways that race did not impact His thinking. For instance, He did not hesitate to show love to a Samaritan woman with whom he as a Jew should not have associated. The Son of God is many things to me, but racist is certainly not one of them. I see only green, my Savior sees only hearts. 1LT (P) Kevin Polosky, […]
