Striving

by Maj Steve Mansdoerfer, USAFR (Ret.) Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). “Airman, you have less than a five percent chance of being accepted into Officer’s Training School.” As I heard those words, I thought I’d have to give up my dream of becoming an officer. I had worked hard to get my application package ready to go before the board. But I did it, leaving the outcome in the Lord’s hands. And after twenty-one years of service, I retired as a major in the Air Force Reserve. I learned a mighty lesson about the power […]

Six Generations: 3

[…]battle in 1970. Greg Yahn, Gene Hess, Joe Christopher, Jesse ‘Sal’ Salcedo, Rob Jackson, Steve Harlan and Ted Hooker were plain-talking heroes who gave their all and after Vietnam went about their lives as solid citizens, not asking anything from their country that asked so much of them. Several were severely wounded in ways that profoundly affected the rest of their lives. Joe Christopher suffered from a fragmentation wound to his back during the firefight and then serious injuries to much of his body when the rescue litter he was in dropped from 60 feet up when the evacuation helicopter […]

Steve, Audley (a grandfather there with his grandson), Doug, myself and Ryan (SC guide) take a quick trip and climb up to Ptarmigan Lake, which is about 13,000 feet or so. Humbling to witness His work here. Fellowship is special that night. Rick has a gift. A true gift. The boys […]

by CH (CPT) Steve Satterfield, USA In my eight years as a U.S. Army chaplain, the Lord has helped me shorten the space between my warriors, their families, and God. This has been regardless of gender / sexual orientation, race / ethnicity, temperament / personal attributes or impairments, cultural, age or religion. This reminds me of the Engel Scale: “The Engel Scale was developed by James F. Engel as a way of representing the journey from no knowledge of God through to spiritual maturity as a Christian believer. The model is used by some Christians to emphasize the process of […]

Project Help Afghanistan

[…]outreach-while-deployed article in the March 2008 Connected, saw a picture of OCF member CH(CPT) Steve Satterfield in the October 2009 CONNECTED, at an outreach in Afghanistan. COL Teetsel contacted CH Satterfield and Operation Iraqi Children (OIC), which was established by Sinise, School supplies, clothes, shoes, etc., were sent to Afghanistan. SPC William Seo, an OCFer who started Project Help Afghanistan while deployed, was sent those supplies and he invited Sinise to be a part of the distribution. Pictures–with SPC Seo in a couple of them–from that November 2009 outreach, are shown as Sinise talks to Bonnie Hunt on her TV […]
